How To Pick A Self Storage Unit

How To Pick A Self Storage Unit

When you are looking to rent a self storage unit, it’s more than likely that you have a specific purpose for it. You could be planning on keeping some seasonal items safe when you don’t need them, clearing space in your home by decluttering, putting your RV away for the winter months, or any other reason. There are so many reasons to use self storage! Making sure you chose the right unit for whatever your purpose is important. Picking the wrong unit can be a frustrating, and sometimes costly mistake which can take time to resolve when it comes to loading up your storage unit. Here are some things you should consider when it comes to picking a storage unit:

What do you want to store?

Having a good idea of what you actually want to store and roughly how long you will be wanting to store it for is important when you are choosing a storage unit. You might be wanting to keep your household items safe using Household Storage. You could be looking for a more professional solution looking for Self Storage for your business. You could even be looking for safe and secure RV Storage or vehicle storage. Knowing what you will be using the storage for can help you to choose the right one for your purposes.

How often will you be needing to access it?

Access can be a big issue when it comes to choosing your perfect Self Storage unit. It depends on your requirements. If you’ll be needing to get items in and out frequently it can be a good idea to make sure you have a unit with drive up access. However, if you are storing seasonal items which will be loaded and unloaded infrequently (and possibly in cold weather!) it could be better to opt for an indoor unit. At Riel Park we offer year round access so you can get to your items whenever you want to.

What size units will you want?

This is a major consideration when picking a unit. What size do you need? It’s something you can only really be sure of once you have an idea of all of the things you want to store. If it’s just a few important items then you probably won’t need the biggest unit, but if you’re looking to keep much larger items safe such as a vehicle you will need a much larger one. At Riel Park we have units to suit all storage needs, from small to very large:

  • Small: There are two kinds of small units. The first is 8.5x10.5 which gives you enough space to hold around two full rooms of belongings, including furniture! The next small unit measures 10.8 x 9.5 and 10x10 which gives you a total of 100 square feet of storage, which is enough to comfortably fit two small rooms of furniture including most appliances.
  • Medium: Starting at 8x13 with a total of 104 square feet of storage space, our medium storage units can easily hold the contents of two rooms including sofas, bedroom furniture, kitchen appliances and more. The larger of our medium storage units at Riel Park provide 144, and 150 square feet of storage space, giving you enough room for most smaller household storage needs.
  • Large: Our large units are big enough to handle just about any storage need you could have. The first of our large units is 10x20 giving you 200 square feet of storage space. With this much space you will be able to comfortably give you space for a moderate sized household and space for additional boxes. The next size up measures 19x13 giving you a total storage area of 247 square feet. Finally our largest units are 10x30 giving you 300 square feet of storage space, easily enough to hold the contents of a large family home as well as many additional boxes.

What else should you think about?

So, once you’ve considered what you are storing, how much space you need, and what kind of access you’ll require there are a couple more things you’ll be needing to think about:

Security

A major consideration when you are choosing a self storage facility overall. It’s no use finding something that fits your needs but can’t guarantee security! At Riel Park you can be confident with 24 hour security monitoring which will ensure the safety of your stored belongings.

Ease of Use

The final thing you need to think about is; how easy is your chosen unit to use? Finding a storage unit that suits your purposes but is difficult to contact, hard to extend your rental period, makes it difficult to pay online, or any other inconvenience can make it a less attractive prospect. With Riel Park you have the freedom to totally manage your booking online, so you can pay, reserve, and even extend your booking without having to leave your home.

If you are looking for safe, reliable self storage this year, Riel Park offers safe, simple and secure, self storage units that give you year-round access, reasonable rates and stellar service. Get in touch with us today for a quote.
